Seniors lose Play off thriller.
Fr Rocks faced Carrickmore in a league play off at Pomeroy on Sunday afternoon, with a league semi final up for grabs for the victor.  It proved to be a great contest with both teams playing some excellent football, with Carrickmore winning at the death with a last grasp free kick, in injury time. It was a close game throughout, with the teams tied on several occasions. Carrickmore began the match strongly and with Mark Donnelly and Martin Penrose in good form opened up a three point lead 0-5 to 0-2, with the impressive James McGahan getting the Fr Rocks scores both from play. Cookstown however soon began to dominate the game, and they had a brilliant ten minute spell when they kicked six unanswered points to open up a three point cushion. Five Owen Mulligan points and an excellent Martin Murray effort doing the damage. Carrickmore however were not to be outdone and three points just before half time left the contest level on a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-8 at the break. The second half continued just like the first, with both sides trading points, a brilliant effort from Shea McGarrity levelled the contest five minutes in. A free from Owen Mulligan put Cookstown into the lead, but a well taken Carrickmore goal put them into the driving seat with fifteen minutes remaining. Carmen pushed on and with three minutes remaining led by four points, however up stepped Paul McGurk with a brilliant individual goal to put just one between the teams. An excellent free kick from Owen Mulligan brought the sides level deep in injury time. However Carrickmore had the last say when they converted a last grasp free in the thirty third minute to leave the scoreline 1-14 to 1-13 in favour of the Carmen men. It was a cruel end to what has been a superb season for Fr Rocks, losing just three league games all season, finishing with the second best defensive record, in fourth position. These are all solid foundations to build for next year. The club would like to thank all the senior and reserve players, as well as the management for all their hard work and efforts this year.
